If you’re in the market for a high quality, powerful and versatile effects processor, details like these will determine which of the competing units is right for you, and should you opt for the DSP Plus, you’d be hard pushed to find fault with it.

Also, the pages which should have contained details of the factory presets were totally blank so the uses to which some of the presets could be put were not always obvious.

I began this review by outlining the way in which our perceptions of new products are radically affected by what has come before. This is a sad omission as it means you have to configure your other equipment to the DSP and not the other way around, digitefh it should surely be.

With distinctive effects like this, it’s very easy to grow tired of them quickly if they sound identical every time you use them. Further left along the panel is a four by three grid which shows the range of effects allowed by the current algorithm coming up. I’d go so far as to say that I’d rather have another effect than EQ on a multi-effects unit, but EQ seems to go with the territory.

It seems that at each stage of the effects chain, where a level for any section is set, what is actually being specified is a mix balance between the signal at the input and output of that section: I found that setting this parameter to more than 7 from produced a very harsh, artificial sweep, more like a filter envelope closing down sharply than a natural damping.

A good trick is to set the initial delay times for the three stereo positions to almost – but not quite – the same value.

Some of the more interesting factory programs feature heavily flanged echoes, a combination of delay and reverse or gated reverb effects ranging from the subtle to the bizarre, and a good number of pure reverb programs.

The default configurations for these are bypass and to switch in infinite repeat, but they can be reconfigured to step manhal and forwards through the programs and they can be used with DigiTech’s three-button footswitches FS and FS to step through diggitech program numbers. In the absence of program names, this is really useful. You can’t save or load just one program, however, so if you wanted to combine programs from two separate banks you’ll have to note the values of the parameters of one set and enter them manually, but that shouldn’t take long.
